Creating A Child-Focused Parenting Plan (12 hours)
Presented (via Zoom) with an In-Person option by Lisa Herrick, PhD and Barbara Burr, Esquire; 2025 session runs as follows: Sept 25, 8:30am—1pm; Sept 26, 8:30am—5pm
The Child Focused Parenting Plan Training is designed for mental health professionals, attorneys, mediators and Collaborative professionals who work with parents on issues related to separation and divorce. The first component focuses on assisting parents in developing each clause of a deep and durable parenting plan using a child development perspective. This curriculum will be a “nuts and bolts look” at creating each piece of a plan, including language regarding legal custody/decision-making authority and protocols, options for weekly schedules, as well as options to accommodate holidays and special days. The workshop also will present a wide variety of empirical data based on research exploring the impact of divorce on children from which we can devise more child-focused co-parenting protocols. The second component of the training will be fully experiential and will provide hands-on opportunities to learn and practice mediation and conflict resolution skills and techniques in hypothetical cases with hypothetical clients. This portion of the training will explore how to work with the parents’ emotional dynamics in the room, how to work effectively with higher conflict parents, and techniques for resolving impasse on child-related issues.
Mediation & Interest-Based Negotiation Skills Training (40 hours)
Presented (via Zoom) by Barbara Burr, Esquire and Lisa Herrick, PhD
2025 session runs as follows: Oct 16 & 17, 8:30am—5pm; Oct 18, 8:30am—1pm; Oct 20 & 21, 8:30pm—5pm; Oct 22, 8:30am—1pm
The Mediation & Interest-Based Negotiation Skills Training is a highly interactive workshop that is designed to teach participants all they need to know to emerge ready to competently and confidently conduct mediations and serve on Collaborative teams. The Training follows a model in which trainers 1) Tell – trainers describe mediation and conflict resolution concepts and skills; 2) Show – trainers demonstrate the concepts and skills through “fishbowl” demonstrations; and 3) Practice – participants engage in exercises and role plays to try on the concepts and skills in a safe environment and develop muscle memory so that they can take the learning back to their practice. The training also leads participants through a rich and multi-faceted exploration of their own experience with conflict and conflict-management style. The workshop involves a powerful focus on self-awareness and practice using this awareness to improve ability to manage conflict with colleagues, as well as to help high-conflict clients move through impasse.
