EXPERIENCE
Rachel E. Rubinstein is an experienced litigator and advocate who represents clients in all aspects of domestic relations, including divorce, custody, support, property distribution, adoption, and protective orders.

Before joining the Burr Law Firm, Rachel was a senior associate at a mid-size firm in Fairfax, Virginia. Rachel brings a depth of knowledge across jurisdictions which enables her to address concerns which are often unique to families in the DMV region, such as military divorce and overseas relocations. Rachel prioritizes crafting a tailored approach to each client’s specific needs while also providing the emotional support necessary to make challenging decisions throughout the legal process. She frequently works with mediators, therapists, psychologists, and other third-party experts to help better achieve each client’s goals. Prior to practicing law, Rachel taught elementary school in New Orleans and contributed to scholarly research and articles advocating for constitutional rights to public education. She is passionate about educational equity and has significant experience litigating educational issues in divorce and custody proceedings.  Rachel is qualified as a guardian ad litem to represent children in the District of Columbia Superior Court, and has argued cases in the D.C. Superior Court, Virginia Circuit Courts, and Virginia Court of Appeals.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Rachel graduated with honors from the University of Richmond School of Law, where she served as a student attorney in the Education and Disability Rights Clinic and as a research assistant to Professor Kimberly J. Robinson (now director of the Education Rights Institute at the University of Virginia). Rachel received her bachelor’s degree with honors from Tulane University.  

COMMITMENT AND PROFESSIONAL CREDENTIALS
Rachel is admitted to practice in Virginia and DC and her admission to the Maryland Bar is pending. Rachel is a member of the Virginia State Bar Family Law Section, Fairfax Bar Family Law Section, Fairfax Bar Young Lawyers Section, the Northern Virginia Women Attorneys Association, and the D.C. Trial Lawyers Association.

Rachel serves as a student team coach for the Alternative Dispute Resolution Honor Society at American University, Washington College of Law. She enjoys volunteering at the Capital Area Food Bank where her husband serves as a senior director.

ACCOLADES
Rachel was named a Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2023. She was selected to the Best Lawyers – Ones to Watch list for 2023 and 2024. She was named in Virginia Business Magazine ‘Legal Elite’ in 2020 and 2023.
